Free Winter Driving Class in Coeur d’Alene Tomorrow, October 17North Idaho winters are beautiful, but driving through them takes preparation. Whether you’ve lived here for decades or are getting ready for your first snowy season, a little extra knowledge can make a difference.Tomorrow, Saturday, October 17, 2026, from 10 a.m. to noon, the Idaho Transportation Department and Idaho State Police are offering a free winter driving safety class in Coeur d’Alene. It’s an opportunity to learn directly from the people who work on our roads when conditions get difficult. An added bonus: Class participants are eligible for 10% off new snow tires at nine participating Les Schwab Tire Center locations across North Idaho. When and WhereDate: Saturday, October 17, 2026Time: 10 a.m.–noonLocation: Idaho State Police District 1 Office615 W Wilbur AveCoeur d’Alene, ID 83815Cost: FreeView the class details and register here. What Will the Class Cover?ISP troopers and ITD operators will teach the class, covering vehicle preparation, equipment, road conditions, crashes, and snowplow safety. The course welcomes drivers of all ages and experience levels, with particular encouragement for young drivers and people new to winter driving in our area.“I Already Know How to Drive in Snow”I’ve heard that from a few people, and I understand. When you’ve been driving for years, taking a driving class may not feel necessary. But I see this as an opportunity to build on that experience. We share the roads with new drivers, visitors, snowplow operators, and neighbors whose vehicles may respond differently than ours. Taking a couple of hours to refresh our knowledge is a practical way to prepare for the season. If you have a teenager in the family, recently moved to North Idaho, or simply want to feel better prepared, consider attending—and invite someone you care about.Make Road Conditions Part of Your RoutineBefore heading out this winter, check Idaho 511 for highway conditions and road cameras. ITD also reminds drivers to slow down, leave extra following distance, and give snowplows plenty of room to work.Thank you to the people organizing and teaching these classes. Helping our community prepare before the snow arrives is a service worth sharing. For additional class dates and winter travel resources, visit the Idaho Transportation Department’s winter driving page.Rain Silverhawk | Owner / Associate Broker, Sandpoint RealtyExperience the Difference.208-610-0011 | northidahosandpoint.comRain Silverhawk
