Cocolalla Idaho

Cocolalla Lake was once an ice farm, producing 200 pound

blocks of ice that were in high demand by the Northern Pacific Railroad.

 

The name  “Cocolalla” is from a Coeur d’Alene American Indian Salish word meaning  “deep water.” Cocolalla lake is perfect for fishing, water skiing, swimming, canoeing and boating in the summer and ice fishing and ice skating in the winter.   Cocolalla runs along Highway 95 in the panhandle of Idaho, and is the gateway to recreational Sandpoint, Idaho. Cocolalla is an unincorporated community in Bonner County, Idaho, United States, ZIP code 83813. and is located on the shores of Cocolalla Lake 12 miles southwest of Sandpoint. The small community is served by a post office, gas station, pub and grill, and the iconic View Café overlooking the pristine lake.  Cocolalla Creek, the lake’s main water source, provides spawning habitat for brown trout, rainbow trout, cutthroat trout and brook trout..  Even though Cocolalla is a small community, don’t forget to stop and visit, it is a pleasant community to take a break and enjoy the views with a cold drink overlooking  the lake and mountains where a tired body can relax.
