Choosing a domain name

Along with being a Realtor I have also been a webdesigner for 12 years. All of my websites come up on the first 3 pages of google and the very first step to accomplishing this is to have a good domain name containing key words.

I tell my clients to choose a domain name that is indicitive of their site, is easy to remember, doesn’t spell out bad words when run together , does not contain hyphens or special characters and a name that contains good keywords. With proper marketing keywords used in a search engine will come up with domain names containing those words on the first pages of the search engines.

I get asked by people all the time if it is better to use their name as a domain name or to choose something else.  While there of course is nothing wrong with your domain name.  (I do have one myself)  It isn’t your best choice when just starting out.  If your name is John Nobodyknowsmeyet and you want good quick results from the search engine, you will only get it if someone is searching for your name.  If nobody knows you and your wonderful abilities, then it will take a bit longer for your name to pop up.  If however you are specialize in a waterfront community and choose a name like waterfronthomes.com  than you will see results a lot quicker.

Happy domain name hunting
