Homes were selling instantly. Buyers were knocking on doors offering well over asking price. It felt like values would rise forever.Much like the “unicorn years” we saw during the pandemic, people were stretching financially because they believed the market would never slow down. But it did.And when the housing market began to crash, I watched something heartbreaking happen.People started losing everything.Their homes.Their savings.Their dreams.Families who had worked their entire lives for security were suddenly facing foreclosure and damaged credit. The stress, the fear, the shame — it was overwhelming. And I knew I had a choice.I could keep doing business the same way…Or I could adapt to help the people who needed it most. That was my aha moment.I decided to specialize in short sales and bank-owned properties. Most agents avoided them — and I quickly learned why. The work was intense. It meant:• navigating loss mitigation departments• filling out thick financial hardship packages• learning new systems and platforms• endless phone calls and negotiations• working through frustration and bureaucracyIt wasn’t glamorous. It wasn’t easy. But it mattered.Because short sales meant:✔ saving credit✔ preventing foreclosure✔ giving families a softer landing✔ helping people reset and rebuildAnd for buyers, it meant access to homes they could actually afford. Those years became some of the busiest — and most meaningful — of my career. I worked long days and even longer nights, advocating for clients who felt like the world had forgotten them. And something unexpected happened…Even in a down market, my business thrived. Not because the times were good —but because I was willing to step into the hard spaces where others wouldn’t.My success wasn’t about numbers. It was about service. It was about looking at a broken system and asking:“How can I make this easier for the people trapped inside it?”That period changed me forever. It taught me to adapt. To keep learning. To lean into challenges rather than avoid them.To remember that the heart of real estate is helping people move forward — even when the road is rough. And today, whenever the market shifts (as it always does), I remind myself of that season.Because growth doesn’t come from comfort —It comes from showing up when people need you most. And that will always be my purpose.third inspired by Active Rain Challenge “Who Are You & Your ‘Aha’ Moment – Self-discovery and Personal Growth” Rain Silverhawk

Search HomesArea SandpointBayviewBonners FerryCareywoodClark ForkCocolallaColburnDoverHaydenHopeKootenaiLacledeMoyie SpringsNaplesPonderayPorthillPriest Lake NordmanPriest RiverRathdrumSagleSandpointSpirit LakePrice
to

Search Now

Come See Listings or more about Rain Silverhawk at
http://www.northidahosandpoint.com
http://www.sandpointlisting.com
rain@lakeandhomes.comRain Silverhawk RealtorSandpoint Realty LLC1205 Hwy 2 STE 203 B | Sandpoint, ID. 83864 Phone (208) 610-0011

My “Aha” Moment — Reinventing My Business to Help People Survive the DownturnIn 2005, the real estate market was on fire.
